HISTP Winter Institute January 19-20, 2024 in San Juan, Puerto Rico

Our HIV Intervention Science Training Program for New Investigators (HISTP) fellows are at the annual Winter Institute. At this year's, held in Puerto Rico, fellows are attended workshops on tenure and grant writing, visiting the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus, and participating in an implementation science seminar.
Carlos Rodriguez-Diaz, Souhail M. Malavé Rivera, and Edda Santiago discussed the need to increase implementation science research work in Puerto Rico, and the need for anti-colonial research to address disparities in HIV.
• As part of the visit to the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus, fellows met with Karen G Martinez, Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Director of the Center for the Study and Treatment of Fear and Anxiety.
• During the tour, which was led by Edda and Souhail, fellows discussed potential collaborations and mentorships with them.
• Fellows shared grant submissions and successes, including Aimalohi A. Ahonkhai submitting a DP1 that was scored, and Melonie Walcott submitting a CDC MARI grant.
